Thank THANK YOU for commenting. I'm always appreciative of those who not only visit my blog but also, take the time to comment. I think that Chiluly's art appeals to those who want bright colors - not a bad thing in these dark times. I don't care for his larger pieces myself but I do like this smaller (and older) pieces - done by himself and not by his army of assistants. By now, Chiluly is a corporation and not always an ethical one, which is something that Baker should have pointed out. I also found his piece patronizing and if he were as good an art critic as he thinks he is, he could have made his points without insulting those who like Chiluly.

I enjoyed reading both of your posts about the Chihuly exhibit and the falderall about the criticism of it.

I have to admit that I've been to see the exhibit three times, twice with others who had not yet seen it. When I first read the review, I felt a little offended, as if I had been chastised for enjoying something I should not have.

I am not an expert on art in any way. What I find in wandering the Chihuly exhibit is a pleasant escape from reality (although on the third go-around, my experience has dimmed) and I'm wondering if that is enough to be sufficient ...a delight to the eye and a little break? I guess for me it is.

Sometimes, I think critics are just jealous of a successful (i.e. popular with the public) artist. They may be knowledgeable but they are often so jaded that they relish anything shocking or new.
